It doesn’t seem to matter what mode of resistance you use to initially get stronger, i.e. machines, bands, or even your own bodyweight, it all counts. However if your goal is to become as strong and powerful as possible and build up useable lean muscle then you will be well advised to use free weights.
We’ve all heard the saying that opposites attract, well its true, sort of, in the world of strength too. Working both sides of the limb will contribute to greater strength and power outputs and in a safer manner too. Over development of one side causes misalignments, which stretch one muscle as the other one slacks off.
